    San Marcos, population of 50,000+, is located on the Highway 35 corridor between San Antonio and Austin. This city was founded on the banks of the San Marcos River and is considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the Northern Hemisphere. San Marcos is home to the Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University) or around here, just Texas State. Also home to the Texas State University-San Marcos Aquarena Center. Formerly known as Aquarena Springs.
